Climate Resilience

The Group has pledged its support for Hong Kong’s and the mainland's goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 and 2060, respectively. To support the HKSAR Government’s Climate Action Plan 2050, we participated in the Carbon Neutrality Partnership to pursue a green economy. We are enhancing our climate change management through progressive disclosure with reference to the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures (IFRS S2) issued by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). We are studying to develop strategy for a long-term net-zero carbon commitment in the future.

Renewable Energy Development

To promote renewable energy and decarbonization, the Group has widely adopted solar-power applications across its managed properties and construction sites. The Group is building one of the Hong Kong’s largest solar-energy generation networks, with about 20,000 solar panels by the end of 2025. It is expected to generate 8.96 million kWh of electricity and reduce carbon emissions by around 4,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to the CO2 absorption of around 174,000 trees in one year.

The Group, through a joint venture partnership, is undertaking the development of Hong Kong’s first privately funded solar farm on landfill to generate renewable energy. The pioneering solar farm features over 1,800 solar panels on a 100,000 square feet slope at the South East New Territories Landfill in Tseung Kwan O, and is expected to generate 1.2 million kWh of electricity annually, enough to power about 360 households1. By replacing conventional fuels, it aims to reduce carbon emissions by around 468 tonnes a year, equivalent to the CO2 absorption of about 20,000 trees. SUNeVision, a subsidiary of SHKP and Hong Kong’s largest data centre provider, will purchase CLP Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) 100% linked to the solar power generated by the solar farm.

1 According to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, the average electricity consumption per household per month in Hong Kong is about 275 units.
