SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation supports the Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association's Rural Doctor Training Programme in Nanjiang County in Bazhong, Sichuan

Adhering to the belief in Building Homes with Heart, the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation established by Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) endeavours to help the underprivileged and give back to society. SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation Director Christopher Kwok and Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association President Karson Choi recently signed a memorandum of understanding to mark the start of the Foundation's support for the Association's Rural Doctor Training Programme in Nanjiang County in Bazhong, Sichuan. The signing was witnessed by LOCPG Secretary-General Wen Hongwu and Coordination Department Director General Zhu Wen.

The training programme, organized by the Nanjiang County Health and Accounting Bureau and the Nanjiang County Health Training School, provides five terms of training courses from 2018 to 2020 for about 500 rural doctors in the county. Rural doctors who pass the programme's assessment will obtain the Health Personnel Training Certificate of Nanjiang County issued by the Nanjiang County Health and Accounting Bureau, which qualifies them for the village's healthcare service.

For many years, the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has supported financially disadvantaged but talented students in pursuing their undergraduate studies not only to improve their living but also make contribution to the society. In recent years, the Foundation has extended its efforts to the country's targeted poverty alleviation measures by participating in different anti-poverty projects.

SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation Director Christopher Kwok said he is pleased that the Foundation can join effort in Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association's anti-poverty project. He said that joining effort in the country's poverty alleviation programmes and supporting poor regions are meaningful. Since its establishment in 2002, the Foundation has provided financial assistance to talented underprivileged students in response to the country's targeted poverty alleviation measures so the students can pursue undergraduate studies. The Foundation has helped over 10,000 students in about 20 tertiary institutions across the country. In recent years, the Foundation has strengthened its efforts in poverty alleviation by helping to bring safe and clean drinking water to underprivileged counties and rural areas in Gansu, for example. Kwok further said he believes that poverty alleviation should not be limited to donations, but should also focus on empowerment to prevent them from trapping in the cycle of poverty. The Foundation looks forward to joining in even more anti-poverty projects in the future and will retain a close connection with the Association.

LOCPG Secretary-General Wen Hongwu expressed his gratitude to the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation for supporting the Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association's Rural Doctor Training Programme in Nanjiang County in Bazhong, Sichuan. He said that the three-year battle against poverty, launched and supervised by President Xi Jinping, aims to eradicate poverty in the nation and has received positive support from Hong Kong people. Established under this backdrop, the Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association's first anti-poverty project in the Nanjiang County in Bazhong has achieved good results in the first year. People in Hong Kong and on the mainland are one big family – generous donations from Hong Kong have been made through the LOCPG during difficult times, such as the aftermath of the Sichuan earthquake. He said he believes that Hong Kong people's active participation in the country's poverty alleviation measures can generate positive energy in society and motivate even more people to join.

Hong Kong Poverty Alleviation Association President Karson Choi said he is thankful for the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation's support for the country's poverty alleviation work. The Foundation has been a partner organization since the Association's establishment last year. By targeting its support for the Rural Doctor Training Programme in Nanjiang County, the Foundation's contribution enables Nanjiang residents to have convenient, timely diagnostic services from rural doctors with enhanced capabilities. He added that there is about half a year towards building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by 2020 so the Association will continue to put all its efforts into alleviating poverty for the benefit of the country. He said that he also hopes that the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation can continue to support anti-poverty projects and that he welcomes the Foundation team to visit Nanjiang in Sichuan to enjoy the stunning landscape.
