Upholding Sustainability Value in Procurement Decisions
We support local partners and give preference to suppliers and contractors who share our environmental commitments. During the reporting year, 99% of our suppliers were local, and 39% of our total procurements were made by considering environmental factors.
Ensuring a Safe Construction Site
Workplace health and safety, particularly safety at construction sites, is our prime concern. We uphold strict standards and establish safety targets1 to guide our efforts. During the reporting year, an accident rate of 10.3 per 1,000 workers (much lower than Hong Kong’s industry average) was recorded for our contractors at construction sites.
Managing Environmental and Social Risks of Our Supply Chain
We refine our sustainable supply chain management. A Sustainable Supply Chain Management Guideline is in place, which outlines general principles for vendor selection, critical suppliers identification, sustainability performance and risk scoring. During the reporting year, Sanfield identified 23 of its 322 suppliers as Tier-1 critical. No assessed suppliers were considered to have high sustainability risks.
Leveraging Technology to Add Value in Construction
We have proactively deployed innovative technology in construction to enhance efficiency while maintaining high building quality. SHKP successfully accomplished the first-ever rotational bridge launching construction in Hong Kong at The YOHO Hub, which greatly shortens construction time, and minimizes impacts to the community nearby.
- Our safety targets in FY2022/23, which apply to all construction sites, and to all employees, whether from SHKP or from our contractors – include: zero fatal accidents; fewer than 0.5 serious accidents per 1,000 workers (work-related injuries that result in hospitalization for more than 21 days, loss of 20% of working ability, or fatalities); fewer than 7.5 accidents per 1,000 workers.
