Sun Hung Kai Properties presents 2018/19 Sustainability Report detailing latest work and achievements
Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) is committed to engaging with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), believing the business sector has a crucial role in this vital global agenda, according to SHKP’s 2018/19 Sustainability Report, which was published today.
Adhering to its belief in Building Homes with Heart, SHKP reviewed its business and sustainability approach, and identified eight SDGs to focus on to advance Hong Kong’s sustainable development.
“We will continue to work in collaboration with all stakeholders to strive to build better homes for everyone in Hong Kong and pursue the SDGs as a universal call to action,” said SHKP’s Sustainability Steering Committee.
The report also detailed the Group’s other efforts and milestones to achieve sustainability in the financial year ended 30 June 2019.
These efforts received notable recognition in sustainability-related indices. SHKP was named one of the top three performers among all industries in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index, with an ‘AAA’ rating (i.e. the top rating). As at the date of the report, it also maintains one of the top three in the Index for the second consecutive year and remains a constituent member of the FTSE4Good Global Index series of London. The Group also ranked fourth in the Hong Kong Business Sustainability Index, with a ‘Pace-setter’ rating.

Key highlights of SHKP’s sustainability work and achievements in the 2018/19 financial year are as follows:
Enhanced sustainability strategy and practices
- Identified and pledged to contribute to the eight most relevant United Nations’ SDGs
- Performed an internal study to prepare business to respond to extreme weather conditions caused by climate change
Environmentally responsible operations
- Recorded remarkable progress in achieving the Group’s 2019/20 electricity-saving target at our managed properties
- SHKP’s 37-year-old headquarters, Sun Hung Kai Centre, obtained the ‘Excellent’ rating in Energy Use under the Selective Scheme - BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0
Innovative technologies and solutions
- Launched the SHKP Malls integrated membership programme – The Point by SHKP – which is the largest of its kind in Hong Kong
- Introduced the use of drones and realistic 3D models in property development projects
People-centred work environment
- Maintained an accident rate lower than Hong Kong’s industry average at construction sites
- Continued to provide 24-hour counselling and emotional support for all SHKP staff
Community-focused programmes
- The SHKP Reading Club launched the revamped online reading platform ‘Read for More’ to foster a reading culture among youths
- The SHKP Vertical Run for Charity – Race to Hong Kong ICC drew over 17,000 participants over the past seven years
- The Group sponsored and established the SHKP Cycling Academy with the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China to promote cycling training among secondary school students
